How to rewire home phone wiring system so my home security system can work with Vonage cable phone?
Q. I recently switched from traditional landline phone to Vonage cable internet phone. However, my home security system can not communicate with the monitoring station as a result of disconnecting the phone line. How could I rewire my home phone wires to make my home security system work with the internet phone?

A. Internet phone service in not considered reliable for security systems. These type of phone systems can have a hiccup in the audio just like a cell phone does. This can mean a loss of data during the sending of the signal.

What style cell phone is good for an older person?
Q. I got my mom a cell phone about 2 years ago to bring her up to the technology world and finally have a cell phone. I didnt realize when I got her the phone that the numbers are really hard to see and the key pad is really small for her. I have her set up with Alltel and I know she is due for a new phone soon. Can anyone tell me what kind of phone has bigger numbers and a bigger screen to see who is calling?
Asked by Vidapapida - Thu Jun 11 17:38:31 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi, I looked on the Alltel's website and there isn't that many phones that have big keypad. And the touchscreen phones most are too high tech for older person. from all their phones I think Motorola Krave ZN4 is the better choice. because it's not too high tech, and it has a good size touchscreen keypad, with this type of keypad is a lot easier to see the numbers, because they are big and bright. and they have a clear screen cover build-in. hopefully that help's a bit. P.S. F.Y.I. Alltel is now a part of Verizon Wireless

Best phone camera to buy if i want to replace digital camera?
Q. Whats the best phone camera available, with the highest res/framerate for video as well. I want to replace my digital camera and my phone. Not bothered about what else the phone does as long as its not huge, the camera is good, has a flash, the video quality is good as well. Found that phones often compromise on the video quailty.

How does the phone companies know you are using a Motorola Red phone?
Q. Phone companies in the UK promise to donate 5% of your monthly bill for calls made from a Motorola Red phone, using any SIM card. How do phone companies know you are using this phone?
Asked by theoracle - Mon Jun 12 17:21:23 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They can tell the IMEI number of any phone you use with your SIM Card. The first 6 digits tell them the model number and the rest identify the specific phone you are using. This makes it fairly simple for them to create a list of calls made from a specific type of phone. This may seem like a waste of their resources to track the type of phone used for each call, but it is very useful in tracking the life of phones. This information can then be used in making decisions about upgrade programs, warranties, and marketing new models.

How many phone calls does the average congressman get?
Q. Supposedly, going up to politicians in person and calling them on the phone are the most effective ways to get them to advocate for your causes. But how many phone calls do they get? Does my phone call really make a difference in the sea of phone calls. Most importantly, how big is that sea? Please provide a source for your answer.

A. As a former hill intern, I would say 200 to 300 calls easily. I cannot speak for local offices but, outside of meetings which included the entire staff (rare) and off hours...someone was always answering the phone. Messages were always written down and given to the appropriate legislative aid. However, if you are actually expecting to talk to your congressman, it isn't going to happen. Every call is fielded through interns, reception, and legislative aids. If a hot button issue is advertised and people are instructed to call their congressman, you can expect 1000 calls a day or more.

How do I transfer the phone book from my old cell phone to the new one?
Q. I had a tracfone that fell and broke. I can not turn it back on and retreive my phone numbers to move them to the new phone. I tried moving the sim card over to the new phone, but the new one doesn't register the old sim card. Is there any way to retreive the numbers from the old phone that doesn't power up by putting the old sim card in the new phone and unlocking somehow? Thanks!
Asked by rygran173027 - Tue May 20 12:43:21 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Unless you saved your phonebook onto the SIM card, they won't come up on the new phone anyway. I don't know if this is a phone that your purchased at a gas station or Wal-Mart or if it was actually purchased through like Alltel or something, but if the provider has already changed your SIM card you probably won't be able to retrieve anything. If you did save your numbers onto the SIM card and purchased it from an actual cellular service provider, you may be able to take it into them and they may have the software needed to transfer from the SIM card to the new phone.

Q. (Besides phone the new wire would also handle fax and DSL.) Also, what type of main phone terminal is recommended, if any? Right now my phone wire enters the house in the basement and is attached to a very old 2 screw phone terminal.

A. You can purchase standard low voltage phone wire and the junction box at any home improvement store. No need for special wire to handle your fax and dsl.

How does phone insurance work with Cingular?
Q. Do you have to bring in your phone to a Cingular store so they make sure you haven't already broken it before trying to get a new one? I'm guessing you do but I wanna make sure. Also, if I "break" my phone, do I need to bring in my phone to the Cingular store if I report it broken to get a new one? It's $50 to get a new one right? Oh and almost forgot, can you instead kinda like put credit towards getting a newer, better phone? I doubt you can but I don't know what Cingular's rules are on that so yeah... Thanks in advance.

A. You should just be able to take the phone to the carrier and have them activate it for you. But their could be some issues with software. Because your carrier may sell their Blackberry's with their software.

What is a good unlocked GSM phone to be used solely overseas?
Q. I currently have Alltel and Nextel services. However, unfortunately, Alltel operates on CDMA network and Nextel operates on IDEN network which is almost unheard of overseas. I am planning to work, study, and travel to Europe and South America in the course of the summer. I need an unlocked GSM phone with a prepaid SIM card, but that's all I know. I understand Alltel currently have no world phone, and Nextel has the i930 as it only marketed world phone but I cannot afford to cough up another $400.00 for the phone because I spent enough as is with travel and all. So, please advise me on the proper venue as I'm quite oblivious. I know Cingular and T-Mobile operates on GSM network but I cannot contract myself to another mobile phone… [cont.]

What is the difference between a smart phone and a regular phone?
Q. I am shopping for a phone and I am noticing that many "cool" phones (phones with touch screens, full keyboard, etc) say that they are smartphones. I am wondering what the difference between a smart phone and a regular phone. Thx!
Asked by smileyskull - Mon Jan 5 15:29:23 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A smart phone is usually a PDA phone that has many functions such as a Blackberry, Iphone, Instinct and others. Some have windows mobile and others have there own proprietary OS. Regular phones do internet and stuff but smart phones do it better and you can add applications to smart phones where it is harder to do to a regular phone.

How to transfer videos from phone to computer?
Q. I have a Verizon phone, and I also have the VCast software. When I plug my phone into the computer, the music playlist saved on my phone's external memory card shows up, but the videos do not. How can I transfer the videos on my phone memory card onto my computer. Note: The files are too big to just e-mail via a video message.

A. instead of using the software provided, try locating the video's in your computers directory thus using your phone like a USB stick, you will be able to copy and paste files to and from your phone-PC, just make sure of a few things First -that the video's have been transfered from you phones internal memory to your phones external memory (memory card) Second- very important, make sure you have set your phone to "mass storage" as oppose to "data services" in most phones this is found under "Settings" then "usb connections"

I dont need a fancy phone, something affordable and sturdy...I admit I like having the extras but, well, right before christmas is a bad time to need to spend money. Pretty much all services i've heard of seem to be around, Verizon and AT&T bieng the big ones. Also, is there any way to get out of my contract a month of two early without paying too much, should my phone die before November?

See their tech specification first. === additional edit=== i almost forget, since Revol is cdma and may be NOT using SIMCARD,you cannot do to buy any unlocked phone. Only if the carrier use simcard has this chance.Simply buy an unlocked phone and insert the simcard and you ready to go. Im sorry for inaccuracy.

What phone should I get that has a camera, unlimited texting and calling to anyone?
Q. All i want to do on a phone is text and call to anyone. But i want a camera on the phone. I looked on Metro and At&t but metro is too much. Im thinking about at&t. I only have $170 and i want a good deal to pay.
Asked by lily - Wed Nov 26 11:35:51 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well actually Metro, seems to be too much for you because you have to pay for the whole price on the phone, but it has everything you are looking for, you can send and receive pics and texts everywhere in the US, with the 45 dllr plan which you will pay a month from the day you buy the phone, I mean that the phone itself comes with the activation, line and FIRST month of service. So that is the only time where you will pay Metro more than 100dls. You should check out their phones today, they just went down on price they have the ZTE's and Samsungs for less than 150dlls!!! Good Luck

A. The prepaid card will give you an local access number to call which separates it from your pl;an. But depending on if your own plan allows free local calling or not, you still may be charged for the amount of time used. Check your plan. Usually weekends are free or off peak hours like after 8:00 pm and before 7:00 am.
