What else can seniors do during the homecoming hip hop at the pep rally?
Q. Our school always does a pep rally for homecoming. At the pep rally they play silly little games and my class always wins because we're the biggest (103). The highlights of the whole thing are the hip hop dances. This year I am teaching both dances (the seniors and the faculty) but my goal is to involve all of the seniors even the ones who don't want to dance into at least one part of the hip hop. I need ideas besides just having them hold signs and then walking out with all of the dancers at the end. Please help!

Why does Social Security put limits on how much our seniors can earn?
Q. If seniors make over a certain amount (13 grand I think) they must pay back to Social Security a larger amount. This seems to limit how much they can work. Doesn't it make sense to encourage our seniors to work, earn more money, and pay more taxes?
Asked by tones1997 - Fri Jul 11 13:52:06 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, it does make more sense to do those things, but it makes even more sense to get the government out of the business of providing for retirement and putting the responsibility where it belongs -- on the individual. If you save and/or invest for retirement instead of relying on Social Security, you won't need to work when you retire.

What causes seniors to feel superior toward their junior counterparts?
Q. I DO NOT mean any offense. But when things age they depreciate and break down such as a car, house, and etc. I am not referring to all seniors at the same them
Asked by redcore2c - Tue Apr 21 13:22:59 2009 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments
A. A smart man learns from his own mistakes but a wise man learns from the mistakes of others. Some of course never learn. If your ego is so tender that you cannot bear to hear the guidance of someone that has found out from experience why something should be done a certain way then your only avenue to acquiring this information is to spend the time and take the damage of learning it the hard way. Since your lifetime is not long enough to experience all the things someone else did for a lifetime first and then do it all over again correctly you simply wont progress. This is not a superiority thing... it is common sense.

What should the underclassmen do for our seniors last home game?
Q. I'm a junior on a varsity Softball team and we have 6 seniors that will be playing their last home game on Tuesday. The underclassmen are already making them posters to put up for the game, but we would like to start a tradition of doing something special for the seniors other than just making signs or candy leis. We can't write on their cars or TP their houses because there has been issues at our school in the past, so we are not allowed to do that. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. :)

A. The same thing happens my my high school next thursday. I'm a sophmore on the varsity team, and what we do is get them something we like to call "senior baskets" we have 6 seniors also, so each of us underclassmen picks a senior to do, and we each make them a "senior basket." we put their favorite candy in it, their favorite gatorade, necklaces, team or school memoriabilia, really anything they like. Then put lots of ballons on the basket. Then on senior day they announce the players name on the field we carry our basket to our senior then give them a hug and go back.

How much should parents help high school seniors with homework?
Q. I wonder how much I should help my daughter who is a high school senior with homework. She is taking Physics and sometimes has questions. I try and help her, but she fights me and then does not understand the material. I also keep trying to tell her to study for the SAT. She says that I "nag: her. What is the proper way to work with high school seniors? I want her to be ready to be on her own in college.
Asked by Stareyes - Tue Sep 23 11:18:05 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If your daughter has trouble in a subject, your help is definitely warranted. I would tell her that you want the best for her and that it is important that she understand physics. Give her an example of how you use physics in everyday life. Cooking is always a great example. As far as the SAT is concerned, she has to take a practice test and see where she is. Nagging her to study for a comprehensive test is really not useful and yes I would consider it nagging too. After she takes the practice test and finds her weak spots, she can study in those areas and make sure she is ready to take the real test. Take care, Troy

A. I remember being told that the pool was on the fourth floor, and there was no pool in the building. Another one is sending boy students to the girls' bathroom girl students to the boys' bathroom. Seniors like to have fun with innocent freshmen. Most of the time, it's not malicious, but it can be embarrassing. Just don't get upset and be a good sport. Good luck. You'll do fine.

How do you excuse yourself from meetings, events, fun activities that your seniors asked you to attend?
Q. How to excuse yourself from such activities that you do not want to get involved, but your senior asks, but not forces you to get involved and help out. What is the proper excuse that will not offend the seniors or bosses.

A. I always like to leave out the details. You don't have to explain everything. Just tell them you have an appointment, and leave it at that. They don't need to know what the appointment is for. and if they ask, just say "I'd rather not discuss it" and leave it at that...or take Sarah Silverman's advise and just say..."I have diareah!" LoL

What are some good crafts/ things to give to seniors in hospitals?
Q. I really want to do something good for seniors at a local hospital? What should I do that doesn't cost too much but isn't wayyy cheap. Please Help!

A. If you can sew, and you have a sewing machine, consider making a bag out of felt (with ribbons on each end to tie onto the equipment) for wheelchair and/or walker. I volunteer and create arts and crafts at a nursing facility for our seniors. The bags out of felt are very easy and useful so that they have a place to store their glasses and some "mad bingo money"!

I have been scammed by a few companies as well I have all information posted on my blog for people looking to work from home I also have a list of companies to watch for. Most people think that if they charge a fee then its a scam but my research has proven to differ. How will Barack Obama's income tax plan effect seniors?
Q. If he is going to eliminate taxes for seniors: A- Does the $50,000.00 apply to singles or couples? B- If it applies to couples, what if one qualifies as a senior but the other does not?
Asked by Les R - Fri Mar 14 12:52:05 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If it comes to pass -- and I hope it doesn't -- I would hope that it applies to total household income. If the purpose is to relieve a household's tax burden to help them make ends meet -- and if $50,000 is considered low enough income to warrant assistance -- then, I couldn't imagine that it would apply to a retiree's $50,000 retirement income but, not take into consideration his/her younger spouse's $60,000 earned income.

A. In addition to the water aerobics, which a lot of seniors at our community's parks and rec department pool do, the currently popular Leslie Sansone Walk at Home video series has a video at home "walk" routine specifically for seniors. Walking period is great exercise for anyone, and older people like it as well because it's fairly gentle and effective. But for older folks who can't get out to do a daily walk, or who would be stressed out to get far away from home and find themselves with aching joints and unable to get home easily, the walk at home for seniors workout is pretty cool. The benefit of a video is that she can do as much or as little as she likes, split it up into little 5 or 10 minute bursts over the day, or pause it and rest… [cont.]

Where to find grants for youth clubs, seniors?
Q. I am a pastor, trying to acquire a building for worship, instruction, and the implementation of a program for children, youth, and seniors.Need assistance with donations and space. City of Chicago.

A. I think your best bet would be private grants. You may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) but their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) and Grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.

What is serenity for seniors of 75 and older?
Q. I wasn't sure how to word my question: How do seniors of 75 and older achieve serenity? Or What is serenity for seniors of 75 and older? My project is: Achieving Serenity in Aging The original title was Aging with Joy, but it is already taken. I appreciate your input.

A. "achieve serenity"? When you reach the age of 75, you do not need to "achieve" anything. You have already "achieved" all that you intend to "achieve" in life. There is no need to "achieve" any longer. Now you can "enjoy" what you have "achieved" previously. And that provides you with "serenity" for the remainder of your life.

A. After the year is over, go on a vacation to clear your mind. Spend a lot of time thinking and be sure to only do what YOU want. If you still don't know work some 'mindless' job for a couple of months or maybe join the service. Don't pay a college money you don't even know you want to go to. Finding out what you want to do is the most important thing for the rest of your life - give it all the time it needs.
